So my husband and I have been collecting wine corks for a LONG TIME…..seriously, we take them when we order bottles at restaurants and at family & friends’ homes- people might have thought we were a bit nutty but we’ve had a plan. Now I can finally say- its finished!!!

Finished Product!!

Here is how I made it:

So I went to Hobby Lobby in search of a fun frame. I found this awesome old world style frame at a great price! Next I asked their framing department to staple in a board to glue the corks onto. My mistake here was that I had them staple in a white board instead of a black or brown board. As a result, I also ended up taking a black sharpie marker to the white to darken it in the even some shows through in between the corks. Oh well, beginners mistake:).

Coloring in the white with a Sharpie!
Progress…..

Next I began to glue in the corks. I used a simple hot glue gun (also found at Hobby Lobby) with some dual heat glue sticks. Make sure to put glue along the entire length of the cork so that it sticks.

Along the bottom you may have to cut some corks to fit, not a worry, it will look fine.

Corner detail

A note- many wine bottles use plastic corks- don’t assume they won’t work- we mixed some in and they look great, plus push-pins stay in them just fine.

It took some patience and a few burnt finger tips but alas, it is done and ready for use! We are using it to pin the various currency we collect from around the world…here is a sampling of what it will look like- I will post again once I get it more filled in! 🙂

Happy Drinking (Wine), Crafting & Travels!!!!
