Are you packed? My top items for the hospital when baby comes!
Many would say that I am an organized person and always on top of things. Ok, everyone would say that. I can’t deny it, its in my DNA, and don’t even think about asking me where I got it as both my mom and dad sure don’t have it, but alas, here I am in all my over-the-top planning and organizing glory.
This comes in handy many times over and over again, and I’m not the only one who benefits from it. Family & friends’ birthdays, holiday travels with my hubby, grocery shopping, keeping up with bills, dinner parties & nights out, neat & tidy house…the list goes on & on. I wouldn’t say I’m OCD because as my little one Ava has been in our lives, I’m definitely slipping but not worried or stressed in the least. Its just that before her, I had loads of time on my hands….now I don’t have as much- LOL….but for the better, I might add :). She enriches my life more than any planning or organizing could.
All this being said, I had plenty of time on my hands in those final few months of pregnancy as I awaited her arrival. Obnoxiously enough, I had my hospital bag packed by week 36 (she was born at 41 weeks)….including my husbands necessities. You could say I was laughed at by everyone who found out about my overachieving preparedness 🙂 :). Who cares, it made me happy and when you are waddling through life for 3 months….its the little things that keep you truckin’. Thus, here are my top items to pack for the hospital when baby comes!
* Disclaimer: I gave birth at Pantai Hospital in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Although much of the below could be needed across the board in any hospital throughout the world, there are always adjustments so make sure you tour your labor and maternity ward at the hospital you are delivering at and ask questions about whats included in your package :).
Diaper bag for baby goods & rolling carry-on size suitcase for you to include the following:
- Bath Towel & hand/face towel (for you & hubby)
- Toiletries: shampoo & conditioner, face wash, body soap, bio oil & body lotion, toothbrush & toothpaste, deodorant, Chapstick, hair brush/comb, hair ties
- Nursing tanks- 2-3
- yoga/lounge pants-1-2
- nursing pads & granny panties
- sanitary pads
- socks
- flip-flops
- gum/mints
- snacks (granola bars & dried fruits) & water
- phone charger
- Playing cards
- IPad for FaceTime & Skype
- going home outfit for you (comfy- think maxi dress or yoga pants)
- going home outfit for baby
- change of clothes for hubby & his deodorant & toothbrush
- car seat for baby
- Any prescription medications you are on as well as prenatal vitamins
- Birth plan!!
I know it sounds like a lot and many of you may not have to pack as much depending on the amenities of your hospital, length of your stay, and type of delivery…but at least this should give you a good idea of where to start.
Until next time, happy deliveries~
