We sure do love Hong Kong and although Ava has been a few times as a baby and toddler, Mac once as a baby, and David and I more than we can count……when we got an opportunity to join David on a work trip for a long weekend we jumped on the chance to show the kids around one of our favorite cities in Asia! (you can check out a few of our previous trips here.)

Hong Kong is an awesome city to explore and they make getting around super easy. HK has great public transportation with the metro, buses & even ferries to & from Hong Kong Island and Kowloon, not to mention various outlying islands. They also use Uber so as long as you have an account, regardless of the country you set it up in, it works great! Plus English is commonly spoken all over Hong Kong, with Cantonese coming in 2nd, and Mandarin after that.

With such a quick weekend and 1 day full of business obligations as a family to attend, we kept to a few highlights of what we knew we already loved to show the kids plus some new adventures! We even had the great pleasure of seeing one of David’s best buddies and his family, what a treat.

We stayed at the Sheraton Towers on the Kowloon side, right in Tsim Sha Tsui on the water next to the famed Peninsula hotel. It’s a crosswalk away from the boardwalk of the bay and a fabulous location to get everywhere. We actually stayed here for a few nights back on our honeymoon before Bali. Sadly this time we were unimpressed with the hotel and its services, wouldn’t recommend you to stay. It worked for us since we always need 2 rooms in Asia due the the size of the rooms and having 2 kids, but that’s where the pros ended. (well actually the views are amazing too- the entire bay and Kong Kong Island in the distance).

Anyway, it’s also good to note it’s Hong Kong’s rainy season. Every day we had rain but honestly it didn’t damper our moods much- the only real bummer is the clouds never really lifted to us to take the kids to Victoria’s Peak….guess we have to come back! It was very warm per the usual so the rain here and there is a nice break, haha. I took the kids exploring around the Tsim Sha Tsui area of Kowloon island – so many fun shops to stroll in and out of. There are many things you can’t find in Beijing that Hong Kong has so the kids and I had fun checking out the goods and exploring a bit. We also checked out the Hong Kong Museum of Art which I had also never done, just across the street from our hotel. Kids weren’t overly impressed but it was FREE and a fun way to kill some time during a downpour. We finished that night by strolling around Tsim Sha Tsui…kids had a weird craving for kebabs and as luck would have it we happened upon Ebeneezers and it was so delicious, a random great find!

After some time at the new office space celebration with the company and families (and check out this dog, or is it a lamb?! LOL), and a happy hour with the owner’s of the company (check out the view!!), we decided to take the kids on a ferry ride over to Kong Kong Island and check out the central area. This is a fun pit stop because it has tons of walking escalators up the hills of HK, and you can get off every so often to stroll along a street checking out bars, cafes, restaurants, and shops. We found this cute little place called Flaming Frango and enjoyed some great peri peri chicken and people watching. A far cry from our earlier days in HK without kids when this was just the start of our night, lol.

For something completely different than we have ever done before in Hong Kong, David’s buddy Samuel and his family (who live in HK), took us on an adventure for a day, and was luck would have it, the only day the clouds parted so we could enjoy the sun! We took a ferry from HK Island about an hour away to another island called Cheung Chau Island (which means Long Island). It was such a stark contrast to the hustle and bustle of Hong Kong & Kowloon islands. We meandered the narrow streets and found a great shop to try their famous local dish- fish noodle soup. It was so fresh and flavorful. The beach was perfect- great swimming area with wind surfers beyond the barrier. Even HK island far in the distance, so cool. They had some little bars serving up drinks and snack with even some beach chairs for rent. The most perfect day swimming and exploring more of Hong Kong we hadn’t seen before. We finished off our fun day with a ferry stop back in Central at a cool little Mexican restaurant called Mar Cocina Mexicana- it was DELICIOUS.

Our final morning started with some crazy rain but no matter, Samuel was taking us a super fun Dim Sum restaurant that was known for its farm to table approach and artistic styling of dishes- The Lake House did not disappoint! I could not get over not only how everything tasted, but how it was all styled….and the restaurant decor itself, such a cool vibe. It’s about a 20 minute drive away from our hotel, a fun car ride to check out more of Hong Kong. We finished our time by stopping by Samuel’s apartment on the Gold Coast and let the kids play video games while we chatted and enjoyed his spectacular view (and even got to see a mega yacht come into moor).

As you can see, a quick getaway but as always, loved our time in Hong Kong and I’m sure will go again and find even more to explore that we haven’t before. Until then, thanks for reading and following along our adventures~

xo, Kimbra
